What I Know for Sure by Oprah Winfrey

4.0

“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.” Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling

I have chosen to read – listen to – this book purely by chance; I was never an Oprah Winfrey fan - as well as I hadn't tried! Perhaps an unwarranted default - but this book opens up the appetite for getting to know her more and for her very inspiring program and writings on the ring of life.

There is no doubt that it is necessary to ask yourself: What I know for sure? A question seems easy, but very difficult; Oprah wrote this book as a result of receiving this surprising question. It is a fascinating journey that reveals a more magnificent character than it looks and confirms with Hemingway: A man can be destroyed but not defeated.

Our memories could be filled with pain, shame and regret even if we are innocent and it’s indeed very hard to cleanse our heart and mind free ourselves from such memories.

"My highest achievement: never shutting down my heart. Even in my darkest moments—through sexual abuse, a pregnancy at 14, lies and betrayals—I remained faithful, hopeful, and willing to see the best in people, regardless of whether they were showing me their worst. I continued to believe that no matter how hard the climb, there is always a way to let in a sliver of light to illuminate the path forward."

"Ask yourself what you know for sure and what you’ll find along the way will be fantastic, because what you’ll find will be yourself."

Successful people also feel fear and doubt, but what makes them stand apart is that they have faith. If you have the faith that you will go at least one step more than you think you can, you’re already walking in the right direction.

"While I was waiting on God, God was waiting on me. He was waiting on me to make a decision to either pursue the life that was meant for me or be stifled by the one I was living."

Each and every one of us has our own problems and agonies we go through every day, but the point is to learn from them. Once you treat the world as a huge classroom, you will learn to appreciate more and learn where you went wrong.

It is highly recommended.
