Tippi: A Memoir by Tippi Hedren

5.0

Tippi is definitely just made it within my top five favorite memoirs/biographies, up there with Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. I always knew Tippi Hedron has "the girl" from the The Birds, and that she and her daughter owned several large cats in the past. This book basically covers both of those topics in it's two halves. The first half takes you through Tippi's early career and her discovery by Alfred Hitchcock. After a tumultuous professional relationship with the famous director, he made it his personal goal to destroy her career. This was when Tippi found her passion for large African cats. This love for these animals was sparked after shooting on location in Africa. That same trip she and her then husband came up with the idea for what became Roar, the most dangerous movie made in Hollywood history. It took over ten years to make, cost 17 million dollars (only making about 2 million at the box office), and resulted in several injuries among the cast and crew, including her daughter Melanie Griffith who had to undergo facial reconstruction surgery. Overall this was a great, fast-paced memoir filled with movie/Hollywood trivia that kept my attention page after page.
