The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma by Bessel van der Kolk
5.0
It’s a highly engaging non-fiction book on the effects of trauma and stress on our body and brain.
There are detailed explanations of how traumatic events influence the brain, and the effects of widely and not so widely used treatments and therapies on the brain and body. Very fascinating. Highly recommended to anyone interested in healing bodies and minds from trauma, or just interested in the workings of our bodies.
The things that amazed me most - MDMA paired with therapy can be a cure for trauma. Scientists still don’t know how exactly psychotherapy and meds affect us, including even a simple conversation with a therapist or a friend. Many therapies that the author mentions I’ve started, surprisingly, using intuitively - yoga, massage, dance, socialization, internal family approach, psychotherapy, meditation, breath, and writing - the body knows the way to healing, one just needs to follow it.
