The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See
5.0
I really enjoyed this! By the end I was really invested in the characters, their grief, and experiences. There’s some parts of Young-sook and Mi-ja’s relationship that I get really hung up on, but other than that I found the writing to be captivating, the story to be heart-wrenching and the Haenyeo to be an incredible society. I never knew of them, JeJu Island, or any of the atrocities that took place during the war here. I learned a lot, and appreciate that I was able to take more away from this book than just the story.
