Bunny by Mona Awad

4.0

(3.5) Bunny is one of the first adult thrillers/paranormal books I have read and I really liked the story and Mona Awad's writing style. Bunny follows the story of a girl named Samantha who is enrolled in grad school and is in a writing program where there is a small group of girls who seem to be overly attached to one another. Samantha gets invited to join this group and eventually becomes wound up in their doings. I have heard that this book was a total mind-boggler and it did boggle my mind a little bit, but not a lot.

Awad's writing style is really interesting to me and I loved all of the metaphors and references put into the story. Although I didn't get all the references, the story wasn't super confusing.

The plot goes from slow to fast to slow to slower and back to fast. That being said, I still enjoyed it, but it was a little bit boring from time to time. The middle and the ending are probably my favorite parts of this story.

Samantha and Ava's friendship was one of my favorite parts, too! I love girl friendships in books and they really made me smile. I totally thought that they had some sapphic energy, so I was a bit sad when they didn't end up together. Maybe that's a me thing?

Overall, Bunny is a pretty dark story with some twisted elements that I found a lot of interest in, despite the slowness of the plot at some points.
