Oh I love Emily and Wendell! They have my whole heart! Their silly little banter is so cute! This is the coziest of cozy fantasies.
“Perhaps I will refuse you here and now. Disappointment in love may provide a welcome distraction from the poison.”
“Only you, Em, would refer to heartbreak as a distraction. I think I would have a more sympathetic response if I asked to marry a bookcase.”
I was so happy to see that this series is going to continue on to a third book. I loved the somewhat spooky atmosphere in this one. Lost in the woods, hidden doorways. It was all very scenic.
I know reading is very subjective and we aren't all going to like the same things. There are several very popular books that I do not enjoy, but I feel like when people say they don't enjoy this book, they tend to say it was too slow or boring. This book is not action packed. This is meant to be a slow meandering walk through the forest. This book is not a race. This series, this writing style, is whimsical and light. It's supposed to be consumed curled up by the fire with a fresh cup of tea. It's to make you giggle and put a warm smile on your face. If you expect an epic tale of actionable adventure, you are going to be disappointed. We move so fast already in our day to day lives. Take a moment for yourself, slow down and enjoy this book.
