Nemesis by Shaun Hutson
1.5
This wasn't good. The plot was messy, and full of holes. Silly things, like the police giving a suspect's name to a victim so he can go hunt him down.
It also contains some of literally the worst, grossest sex scenes I've ever read, and lots of them. If I never have to read the phrase 'bulbous head' again it'll be too soon. And every man seems to have a 'familiar straining against his trousers' at all times.
There are also so many really unpleasant depictions of rape and assault in this book. It's not that it's portrayed as good, necessarily, but we do very often experience these scenes from the point of view of the rapist, who is obviously enjoying them, and it's really quite nasty.
Overall, the gore and the scares were there, but the plot wasn't strong enough, and the oversexed and cruel attitude towards women and children was too horrible to make this book worth reading.
