The only problem is that I do not like the main relationship, the main male character (Marco), and only like the main female character (Celia)  in a fair decent amount.

I hate Marco with passion in some parts,  and that man is written red in my book.

And I hate that I hate  him and Celia together, but also fell for their words to  each other. I am nothing if not a words-of-affirmation hopeless romantic.

further thoughts ————

I had high expectations with this book. It was sky high. I was so convinced that I’m going to fall in love with everything there is inside these pages. That this was going to be my new annoying personality.

Fortunately for the people in my life, I didn’t like it that much. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t like it that much.

The writing, as promised, are descriptive, well-put, vivid, and enchanting. The description of the circus was gorgeous, and I especially love the Midnight Dinners part. It’s so vibrant and wonderful.

But, here’s the thing : I do not like the main characters of this book. I hated our male leading character, Marco, with passion at some point of the book, and I only like our female leading character, Celia, in a decent amount.

The romance, we literally went from 0 to 100. It was so fast, it became from attraction to immediate “Everything I have done is for her” in a matter of seconds. The dramatics.

Also, what supposed to be sweet (I think) and romantic and oh grand gestures, I was just plain annoyed.

There was this part, after someone close to Celia had died, and they were talking about him, and Celia was telling Marco how they used to write letters to each other, and Marco was just suddenly, “I would’ve done that too”like?? For what?? And then they just suddenly talked about their love for each other and the tents they made for each other, completely forgetting the death of Celia’s colleague and didn’t bring him up again. Like??

Maybe this is how normal people converse (I wouldn’t know), but I don’t get it 😭
