My Cat Yugoslavia promises something similar to Exit West's marketing description, but makes statements that are hidden and emerging and somehow feels like the author isn't trying at all. The prose evoked a consistent theme of loneliness. Statovci writes characters that know who they are and yet are so lost. It's hard to explain why I thought this book was so great except it made me feel all sorts of things when I was reading it.
