To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo

3.0

It started off fairly strong, with the main character being a siren, story set in a world where the legend of Midas continues, where magic and mermaids exist. However this book quickly adapted to the typical YA enemies to lovers blueprint. Don't get me wrong, I am a sucker for enemies to lovers, but when books follow a very typical path for common tropes, the predictability of it all just washes away excitement.
1. MC and love interest hate each other and doubt each other all the time
2. Love interest saves the MC, MC saves the love interest, and that's how they explain their bonding (give me a break)
3. Stupid decisions in the name of love and care for no reason
4. "I have realized the power of love" kinda arc for the MC who was a human-killer.
5. Makes the MC feel like she's a part of a found family, although she's barely had conversations worth 2 chapters with any of the members of the "found family" excluding Love Interest.
Additionally, the villain was written very cartoonishly (If that's even a word) and was sadly one-dimensional. Something else that didn't sit right was that way the main characters happen to develop a bond I never saw blooming. Disappointing plot, promising world-building, that's how I'd explain this book.
