Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas
5.0
More like a 4.5
Holy fuck I loved this book aklsjdlakjsa. This is my first book from Penelope Douglas and I wan't expecting to love this as much as I did. This is a forbidden romance story that follows a nineteen-year-old girl named Jordan. She is at the movie theater alone on her birthday when she meets this sexy older guy named Pike, and they have a ton of chemistry right from the beginning. Shortly after though, she finds out Pike is her boyfriend Cole's Father. Pike is 38 years old and he had his son Cole when he was 18, and he had no idea that Jordan is Cole's girlfriend. Due to an unfortunate situation (Cole getting arrested), Cole and Jordan are forced to move into Pike's house because he has no other options. Sexual tension starts to form between Jordan and Pike because they can't help but feel drawn toward each other....
Adkjlkjsda. First off let me just say that I love Pike. I was actually giddy while I read this and he's the biggest fictional crush I've had in a long time. I love the fact that he's older, he works for a construction company, he has tattoos on his arms, and he loves his son more than anything in the world. He's just so dreamy and swoon-worthy and GOD DAMN I loved him okay???? And I loved Jordan too. Even though she's only nineteen she's incredibly mature for her age and she's so quick on her feet and witty and charming and she ALWAYS put Pike in his place when he's being a dick which I loved. She always stood her ground and didn't take shit from him which I love about her.
The fucking sexual tension in this book KILLED ME. It was written so well. The forbidden aspects of the relationship really drew me into the story and kept me turning the pages! I couldn't wait to find out what would happen when everyone found out about them and ohhhh it was just so good. This book also got surprisingly emotional for me at times because of the father/son relationship between Pike and Cole, I loved reading about them. I also really loved Jordan's older sister Cam, their relationship was so cute and so realistic and I love good sibling relationships in books!I LOVE that scene where Pike thought she was cheating on Cole and he went to go confront her and he found out the truth of what happened and he felt so bad so he built her a garden... <3 I also loved seeing Pike fight off that douche-y guy who was abusive to her, and that scene where he was taking her back to the trailer park where her stepbrother lives and he was all creepy and he refused to leave her there.. I also love how she always made fun of his age, but in a cute way, it cracked me up. That scene where they were all muddy and nearly fucked for the first time and then Cole showed up at the house I WAS TRIPPING. Oh my god, so intense!
But wow okay I need to read all of Penelope Douglas' romance novels immediately! I just really love taboo forbidden relationships and this book was freaking great. The age difference was a big part of it but it was also the fact that he is her boyfriend's Dad and just aksjdlaksda. I loved it. This is my favorite romance that I've read in 2018 so far!
