Zepar & Mara: This Story Was Very Confusing
This book is yet another reason why I feel it's important for the book blurbs on the back to provide an accurate description to what a book is about.
So, full disclosure... I do not care to read books with a heroine and multiple love interests. I prefer not to read reverse harems, #whychoose, or books where sharing the heroine or hero are involved. I don't have anything against the genre. It's just my personal preference. I prefer to read romance where the romance is one on one. With that being said, it would have been nice to have had that included on the Amazon description of the book, something that is now considered the new norm. A new feature that others and I appreciate.
With that being said, we have two demon twin brothers, Zepar and Vepar. Upon glancing at the cover, I was skeptical but after reading reviews and asking questions from other readers who have read the book, I was assured that this book was NOT a #whychoose novel. When it really isn't. But there are multiple characters interested in the heroine. Again, not something I enjoy.
Anyway, Mara makes a deal with twin, Vepar to get out from under an ex's thumb as she owes him money. Vepar agrees to the deed, but the fee is for a soul. She makes the deal but due to a loophole, he ends up owning Mara's soul. Enter his brother, Zepar who begins to have feelings for her. And just like the movie "Something About Mary"... it seems all the males who come in contact become drawn to Mara and wants her for himself. However, she develops feelings for Zepar. They soon discover the true reason that everyone is drawn to Mara. Some want to claim her for themselves, and others want to kill her.
This writing was very good. However, somewhere along the way, I became very confused, and the biblical references and loopholes became too much. The end of the book totally went over my head and some sort of deal was struck that made absolutely no sense to me. I could have reread it and tried to decipher it. But, in truth, I really didn't care.
The author states that this book was an HEA. But, given the circumstances at the end, I would categorize this as HFN. I wasn't satisfied with the ending and the snippet provided at the end of the book gave me no desire to continue the series. I'm getting off this merry go round.
In a nutshell, this book was just OK. It will hold your interest, but I fear after a while, you may lose interest or at least have to read the conclusion again just to make heads or tails of it.
Happy reading!
