the interactions and tension between V and Z for the first half of the book were, good. the were even better in the middle. then they got together and i got bored. (for a while) it was revealed that they started to like each other right when they met, insta-love is not my thing anymore them being enemies from the start makes sense, them finding each other attractive makes sense, them respecting or liking certain features makes sense, but them liking them from the start? no.
random tidbits that i liked
V bonds with two dragons feathertails are actually baby dragons Sgaeyl and Tairn being mated pairs when S and T go off on their own, they can affect X and V’s feelings honestly, anything todo with the bonding between dragons and humans or dragons and other dragons
then came the betrayal… this was good. but an okay plot twist. it’s revealed that X is working with the griffin fliers and that they are just trying to survive. so it turns out the dragon fliers are the evil ones for trying to save themselves and hoarding their weapons. i think this is an okay twist. it would’ve also been an okay twist if X was just a bad guy and wanted to take down Navarre. I don’t care as much about what the plot twist is, I care more that the betrayal was very weak. it shocked me, but it was weak. like yea he betrayed you, but immediately was like, “oh but i’m actually the good guy, trying to save the people outside of Navarre” i don’t know, it just didn’t hit as hard when i understood the explanation. it is the end of the book, so either they had to make up or their conflict would make up the next book. and they chose… to do that. honestly though, i do respect and like the decision. i just expected to be wowed more and that might just be too high of expectations.
the last plot twist about Brennan. I don’t know why i thought for a second that he’d come back as a venin, but this is good too. though it does raise some questions. but i’m excited for the next book.
Violet doesn’t take back Xaden at the end of this book. good. something to look forward to in the next book.
and my feelings on the main characters...
- Dain…
i’m not sure how i feel about him. i’d say i don’t like how two faced he was, but that’s kinda the point. I guess the only thing i really didn’t like was his holier than thou attitude. - Rhiannon..
I do like her character, i appreciate the loyalty and friendship she provides to the rest of the characters. even if it is very one note. - Xaden…
the best character by far. complex, secretive, and cunning, he’s the natural male lead. i have no - Violet…
her hesitancy to kill is acceptable, but she does realize she’s being trained for war right? also, stop telling me she is smart, i get it. she’s also a good character, but not nearly as interesting or complex as X.
