Elite Capture: How the Powerful Took Over Identity Politics by Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò

Did not finish book. Stopped at 50%.
Táíwò's book starts out interesting, and I like his frequent resort to philosophy rather than social sciences to explain the phenomenon of elite capture. After the first hundred pages or so, it becomes clear that Elite Capture could easily have been an essay but was instead drawn out to book length for publication reasons. many of the points that Táíwò makes, while not actually reductive, are obvious and unexciting. the moment I realized that I was avoiding reading because it meant I would have to read this, it became a bottleneck to other books and I knew I wouldn't finish it.
