Goodnight Beautiful by Aimee Molloy

4.0

Newlyweds Sam Statler, a reformed womanizer, and Annie Potter, a successful PhD, have recently moved from the city to Sam's sleepy hometown in New York and are elated to begin their new life together. Annie is a visiting professor at the local college and Sam, a clinical psychologist, is seeing patients in the office of the beautiful historic home that seemed so perfect. Little does he know that his sessions are easily overheard through the vent in the house...

It is so hard to summarize or review this book without giving anything away! And that's probably for the better. Going into this reading experience blindly is certainly the best way to go in at all. The book was engaging, funny, and lighter than expected, but not without its twists and darker, more thrilling moments. Aimee Molloy is so clever! She really pulled one over on me with Part 1. The remainder of the book didn't stump me quite as much as that part did—I sort of gathered where we were going with this—but it still remained thrilling and I absolutely could not be bothered to put it down for anything. I listened to the audio version and at first found one of the narrators to be an extremely odd choice (to the extent that I almost put it down), but as the story went on, I realized it was the PERFECT casting.

I have only read a handful of the genre, but this was hands down my favorite thriller yet. I really enjoyed the characters in the book and the different perspectives, and I still can't believe that twist at the beginning. I am also eager to get to Misery by Stephen King now since much of this book references that one. I look forward to adding this one to my personal collection and returning to it again to see if I can spot the hints early on! Highly highly recommend this one!
