A Collection of Monstrous Short Stories by Lily Mayne

5.0

I only want a Ruke/Jamie book now. RTC

Update 6/7/23: This was a fantastic short story collection with detailed notes for each from the author that really helped make each story that much more impactful. I would definitely wait to read this until you've completed all the books already released (up until Lor) as these take place all across the timeline of the books. Some might be disappointed that their favourite characters/couples weren't featured as much as others but I thought it was a good enough mix. We also get a brand new story with Ruke and Jamie and it really made me sad that they weren't a full-length book (yet?) but are instead part of a major event in Rig and Gloam's story.

Since I read this immediately after another short story collection from a different author's horror/fantasy series, it made this stand out that much more because not only do I feel Mayne is a better writer but she also structured the stories with her notes and timeline references in a really helpful way. Even though I read the entire series up until Lor only this year, I have a horrible memory and the notes were immensely helpful in imagining the setting and remembering the circumstances. Other authors should take note.
