Marnie Fowler is as pathetic as her namesake in Lena Dunham’s GIRLS; including having a low paying hospo job with no career prospects and simping over a finance guy with a girlfriend (justice for Tash, she deserved better!) 3☕️
To me this book is a poor-woman’s Really Good, Actually - similar story arc but nowhere near as funny.
NB I can’t stand the audiobook narrator’s pronunciation of ‘Melbournians’!!
It’s Mel-bern-ians (as in Bernie Sanders not Jason Bourne).
Despite its shortcomings I did enjoy reading the book (and would’ve finished it sooner if my audiobook app didn’t break 3/4 through).
There was something very nostalgic reading about Melbourne being far from home (apart from all the covid/lockdown references).
Graphic: Infidelity, Toxic relationship, Gaslighting, Toxic friendship, and Abandonment
