A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park
5.0
What I Liked
Park intertwines the past and the future in a really interesting way. Nya's long walk to water in comparison to one of the Lost Boy's long walk for survival. Both characters are relatable and interesting.
I work for a nonprofit that drills wells in communities in East Sub-Saharan Africa. I loved Nya's confusion and amazement at the well drilling - it put me in the perspective of the children whose lives are changed by the addition of a well to their village. Amazing.
What I Didn't Like
At times, the simplicity was a little frustrating for me, as I wanted to see more description and emotion between the pages, but what I didn't mind about this simplicity was that this book is something that I would feel very comfortable reading to a child to help them understand the reality of life in a third world country.
