To Bleed a Crystal Bloom by Sarah A. Parker

Dnfed 40%.

I’m so sad I didn’t like this book because her other book When The Moon Hatched is my favorite book of the year and one of my all time favorites.
This one though, it let me down. The writing was really good, one of the reasons I fell in love with WTMH but the characters not so much.

This is a loose rapunzel retelling and Orlaith, our FMC never leaves her castle since she was rescued by Rhordyn, our MMC when she was 2. So, aside from the age gap, he’s supposed to be a father figure to her but instead she is absolutely obsessed with him? Didn’t sit well with me. I was hoping the whole time that he would not turn out to be the love interest but was really disappointed when it did.
Also, he barely interacts with her but demands that she gives him a little bit of her blood diluted in water that she sneaks through a wall every night, and when he actually talks to her, he is freaking rude and reprimanding her.

The FMC though she has a strong case of Stockholm Syndrome, takes a drug that she prepares herself, is almost 21 but acts like she’s 5, always throwing tantrums
and clings to any sort of show of affection from him even though he’s happy in calling her pathetic at every chance .

This was a really toxic relationship and I’m not here for it.
