Our Bloody Pearl by D.N. Bryn
5.0
Gosh, how do I put into words how this book made me feel?
Perle is a siren, a bloodthirsty man-eating creature, but they were captured by an equally bloodthirsty captain and kept imprisoned as proof that their kind could be taken without falling prey to their songs. It's not until the ship is taken over by Dejean Gayle, a charming pirate captain, that they gradually begin to learn that not all humans will hurt them.
The journey of Perle learning to trust Dejean and eventually growing their little pod warmed my heart, and I was on the edge of my seat for entire latter half.
This book is a wonderfully queer steampunk-esque fantasy in an incredible world, and as one of the lucky bastards who got to beta-read the next installment, you haven't seen anything yet.
