Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan

4.0

3.75 stars. A well written, extremely slow burn romance.

What worked for me:

- the dual point of views
- how well the author handled the hard topics of child loss and extreme depression. As someone who has a chronic mental illness, I felt it was handled with finesse.
- the characters were well thought out and written well

What didn’t work for me:

- the slow burn to 70% and then what felt like an erotica. This is a me thing, but it felt like scene after scene of hot and spicy and it was just too much for me personally.

- parts of the slow burn were too slow. This one feels like not much happens, but it’s not supposed to. This is really all about the two characters dealing with the reasons their first marriage didn’t work.

*small spoiler for this one*
- Vashti. I know for the book, she was important, but I feel like if we’re going to have the male character of a novel have a sexual relationship with another woman, that we should have the main female at least try a sexual relationship with someone too. Just my criticism and I understand for this book she was needed, but I just wish this particular piece was handled with a bit more nuance.

All in all to say, I enjoyed this romance. It was good and I will definitely pick up the sequel, and will try Kennedy Ryan again.
