The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
2.0
It wasn’t for me.
On the one hand, I get that this is a book of commercial fiction. It’s not John Burnside’s [b:The Dumb House|1429493|The Dumb House|John Burnside|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1356445518l/1429493._SY75_.jpg|1419989] or Han Kang's [b:The Vegetarian|25489025|The Vegetarian|Han Kang|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1478196580l/25489025._SY75_.jpg|18449744], as I had mistakenly thought it would be. On the other hand, I’m rolling my eyes at the writing and characters. There’s Yuri’s unsolicited advice (what was that scene for, honestly? We don’t need someone telling Theo that Alicia is a femme-fatale). Theo’s shock at the idea that victims of abuse might commit suicide after learning about the death of their abuser. (Seriously, Theo? You’re a criminal psychotherapist.)
