Calling Fantasy Romance lovers to pick this one up if you like;
• Norse Mythology
• Vikings
• Betrayal
• Surprising twist
Not a lot of books out there with Norse mythology element so I’m always excited to read one and this book didn’t disappoint me!
I really like the world building with different kind of realms called, The 9 Realms.
This story takes set in one of those realms – Asgard, specifically Folkvang. It is home to the Valkyries and fallen warriors ruled by Freya.
It is told from dual POVs, Kara and Sigurd as the main characters.
Kara is one of the Valkyrie – a badass female that works as a guide souls of the dead to Valhalla/ Folkvang. While, Sigurd is the fallen Viking who was killed by Kara, even though she doesn’t have any recollection of doing that to him.
Both Sigurd and Kara have great qualities as a fighter – they are strong, stubborn and never gives up a fight.
But as much as I like them, I feel like there’s something missing about them…. I wish I get to know more about them.
I also hope their romantic relationship will progress further in the next book.
This story started out with a strong opening, however the pacing takes a slower turn during the middle part of the story. Fortunately, the pacing picks up again once Kara started seeking out the truth of what happened in the past with Sigurd, not knowing the truth is not as simple as that.
Overall, this is a pretty good story that comes with a slight cliff-hanger and unexpected twists. It’s quite enjoyable and has the potential to be a good series.
I’m looking forward to read the sequel to know what happens next cause things are far from being over!
