This book hurt a little. It's been a few years since I finished the Fallen series, and I took an opportunity while browsing the local library to pick back up with the story of one of my favorites, Cam. I'm now remembering why I wasn't so eager a few years ago to continue along this story line.

Cam, inspired by Daniel and Luce's happy endings, makes a deal with the devil to have a second chance in his own love life. He has 15 short days to earn the love of his once-fiance, Lilith. What ensues is a painful series of interactions during which Lilith alternatingly adores and despises Cam. She's convinced he's wonderful and then a rumor or mistaken action completely changes her mind. Time gets down to the wire as the days slip by and Cam still hasn't earned her heartfelt profession of love which he must achieve by... (wait for it)... the night of prom when every girl's dreams come true!

---Spoiler Below ---

The ending of the story wraps up in 10 or so pages of confusion, confessions, and chaos. Lilith rebounds quickly, with no explanation at all, to the sudden disappearance/ending (POOF) of her classmates, mother, and brother. Within seconds, she is in Cam's arms looking forward to her happily ever after, completely oblivious to (or okay with?) the fact that she had been living in an actual hell and none of her life was real.
