Don't Tell Me You're Afraid by Giuseppe Catozzella
4.0
Wow. I just am at a loss for words. I picked this book as it is about Samia who is born in war torn Somalia and has a dream to run in the Olympics and thought it would be perfect considering the Rio Olympics was about to start.
The story starts when Samia is 8 and proceeds until she is 20/21 years old. Samia realizes her dream and ran in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was part of the Somalia delegation of 2. Samia has dreams of participating in the 2012 London Olympics and is doing everything she can to reach her next dream.
As I read (especially the ending) my thoughts went to the Olympic Refugee Delegation in the Rio 2016 games and thought of how brave those refugees are and were.
This book made me cheer at the triumphs and cry at the sadness. Thank you for bringing Samia's story to the attention of the world.
I received this as an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased reviews.
