Fire & Heist by Sarah Beth Durst
3.0
So this book had a lot of potential. I bought this because I loved Sarah Beth Durst's adult high fantasy trilogy, and there was my first mistake. I read a lot of YA so I assumed this wouldn't be that different, I also assumed from the synopsis that this was High-Fantasy... it is not. I don't read YA contemporary or urban-fantasy because high schoolers suck and I'm not excluding myself from that (I sucked in High School) and I hate reading about high school problems.
I also feel like this synopsis and idea have so much room for more and I would love to see more of this world but in the adult genre with adult characters. This whole world and concept are so fucking cool but in 290 pages they just felt super underdeveloped and like set dressing to a high school romance and family drama.
I don't want to give this book a lower rating because I feel like 14 year old me would have fucked with this book and I was just not the target audience.
3 - conflicted stars.
