Save the Game by J.J. Mulder
5.0
I read this book is one sitting. Literally. I couldn't get up from my chair until I was done. That's how hooked I was.
I absolutely adore Max and Luke. And all the side characters, too! Max is such a sweetie. Luke is sunshine personified. They work so well together. Max needs some sunshine in his life and, once Luke realizes Max's trauma, he tries so hard to be supportive without pushing and it's so precious. I love how they meet and fall in love. Luke is chaotic positive energy and it's exactly what Max needed. You can see them making each other better. I love watching Max start to open up to others like Coach Mackenzie and Luke. And the ending, when Luke goes to that party? I was on the edge of my seat.
This book is so sweet, it almost made my stomach hurt from all the swoopy loving feelings. On top of that it was charming, so real, and all around an addicting read. Everything JJ Mulder writes feels this way, and yet, her books keep getting better and better. It should be impossible, but this one is proof!
I will be reading this book again and again. And I know it'll stay with me for a long time.
Notes: 2/5 spice levels, hurt/comfort, ptsd, baseball/hockey, dealing with trauma, insomnia, the sweetest thing ever, supportive friends
