Hood Feminism: Notes from the Women That a Movement Forgot by Mikki Kendall

4.25

  •  does a rlly good job of presenting the ways the mainstream feminism we're familiar with is centred on the white middle class experience to the detriment of black women & other marginalized women
  • discusses the experiences of marginalized women, the role of white women as performative allies vs actual accomplices, and the way white privilege intersects with gender
  • the book is super educational and covers a ton of different issues in eye opening ways such as: housing, poverty, food insecurity, reproductive justice, police brutality, maternal health etc.
  • the book is never boring because the author always centers the emotional, personal stories and lived experiences of black women in its analysis
