I picked this up after hearing so many cool things about it in 2020 buuuut it ended up falling flat for me. Jay’s writing style doesn’t suit me as a reader, even though I tried to get into the book I just couldn’t. The excessive use of footnotes was confusing to me because this is a fantasy novel not an academic paper. Then the sexualization of a 16 year old heroine just made me feel uncomfy….she could’ve been aged up to an adult so that was a choice for her to be a minor.
