I've thoughts. Lots and lots of thoughts. And I'm writing it down to get a hang of it.
This book was about Jesse and Emma. Just them. Sam was there. He was good. And I'm thankful to him for being him. He's a great guy. But the one true love of Emma? It's Jess. It was Jesse all along. A lot of people will root for one or another. But I didn't feel like the rooting for was necessary. Emma didn't really have to end up with someone. She needed to understand what Jesse meant to her before and now. What he will mean to her in years to come. I think even if Jesse didn't vanish for those 3 years, Emma still would have grown out to be a different person. And if she didn't then I think her and Jesse weren't a good pair. In a relationship you both influence each other somehow and if being together meant you don't get space to grow as a person then you are not really meant to be.
Honestly this book ripped me apart. I wasn't really expecting the later part of the conversations and the turn of the story to hit me so differently. Losing a person is scary but growing out of love for a person who you still like and love but know you are not fitting each other anymore, that is scarier. To me. You don't really know how it will go on from here. Heartbreak changes you. You grow more sure of what you want, who you are as a person and who you will love eventually, for eternity. Grief really changes us. This story was not just about who Emma will end up with but also who Emma is as a person. And I'm glad she both found eventually.

It was true love for Emma and Jesse. It really was. And that is why they could say goodbye to each other.
