Lake and his antics made me laugh so much, and I fell for him much like Declan did, even if he was a "monster."
Alice Winters's books have basically the same couple in every series: a sunshine or unhinged mc + a grumpy mc who grudgingly goes along with everything the sunshine/unhinged one wants while pretending to be exasperated but secretly he loves it. They always have pets, and there's always some sort of law enforcement involved, either they work for or closely with them. Sometimes it's supernatural, sometimes it's not.
Despite this, I still had a blast and loved how OTT Lake was, and how sincerely Declan tried to resist until he couldn't anymore. And man, the way I loved their dumb pets Fish Sticks and Mittens? Amazing!
