Whilst I did enjoy this book, and the pages kept turning, there were a few too many gigantic leaps that were beyond belief, too many things falling into place in a country the size of the US was just unrealistic.
A young ski star has a potentially career-ending accident, and during treatment the doctors discover an aggressive cancer needing donor blood. When neither of her parents or aunt are suitable donors questions need to be answered as to why... "Conveniently" the aunt is a DNA expert for the CBI and of course breaks all the rules to try to track down her birth parents.
None of the characters were overly likeable, and we were expected to believe that Lauren had kept her true personality hidden for 17 years, yet turned on a dime from being "helicopter mom to athlete" to total psycho.
For all that, it was a decent read and there were enough twists to keep me guessing a lot of the time. A decent writer, but perhaps one who needs to move away from obvious plot aids like the aunt
