Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers
5.0
Morgan Rogers's writing style is so beautiful. You really feel Grace's loneliness and need to find purpose. It was such a relatable motivation and makes the outlandish plot more grounded. I really liked the main couple. I love the softness that Rogers infused into this coming of age story about a Black woman finding her place in the world. Yuki was the cheesy and tender love interest that Grace deserved. And while I can understand the criticism that the writing was too sweet, I would argue that this was the point. Their love story was such a contrast to the suffocating persona that Grace has to perform for her parents and her colleagues, AND Grace doesn't have to 'earn' Yuki's love by being someone she isn't.
idk this made me smile and tear up.
