The Passengers by John Marrs

4.0

TW: pedophila, suicide,

John marrs continues to deliver books that feel like black mirror episodes in the sense that aspects really feel like they would happen in the future. I think his execution is a bit over the top but that to me is part of what makes it fun. The stakes are high, and the characters are usually a mix of reality with some being super unlikable.

In this case you’re following a bunch of what seems like random strangers in self driving cars. Their cars are hacked and diverted to the same destination leading them to a collision: and the world gets live stream to choose who gets to live or die.

There are explicit instructions not to try and save these passengers and the world is instantly captivated. I was as well.

However the biggest problem I have is that when the stakes are really high for TOO long, the anticipation wears off and you start to care a little less. Overall though I was invested and needed to know how it all played out.
