Lizzie Blake's Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings
4.0
What happens when vibrant and impulsive Lizzie whose in a rut collides with an emotionally constipated sexy Australian Rake (that's literally his name) for a two-night stand? Well, an international accidental pregnancy of course. What else can you expect of this book?? Sexy/steamy moments, ADHD rep, baking fun, instalust/love, dealing with toxic families, and an amazing and supportive found family.
I really enjoyed this book and think there is so much to recommend Lizzie's Blakes Best Mistake to anyone. Lizzie and Rake are both heartfelt, relatable characters who need to muddle through an unexpected life change with a virtual stranger. I'd probably rate it a 3/5 on the steam factor and give it 3.75/5 stars (rounded up to 4/5). My qualms about the book and audio-book are really on the nit-pickier side..... but here they are..... a) the book moves a bit slowly and a big part of Lizzies emotional growth happens during the third act breakup where she needs to come to terms with emotional regulation difficulties that a combo of unmedicated ADHD and pregnancy can easily unleash (saying this as a woman with ADHD who did pregnancy unmedicated - and knew I had ADHD while pregnant). But, also what that means for herself as a person as she grows. b) the author does a good job making Lizzie's ADHD relatable and feel fairly real. However, I wish she had left her explanation of RSD (rejection sensitivity dysphoria) and reference to it out of the book. The things she attributes to RSD are just reasonable reactions to the type of rejection Lizzie, experiencing (ie being devastated and wanting to go home when ignored at school by the boy she had a crush on and lost her virginity to) and doesn't give a true indication of what real RSD is like from a mental, emotional and physical standpoint).
