4.0

Plot: 3.5/5
Characters: 4/5
Relationships: 4/5
World-Building: 3/5
Genre: 3.5/5

Plot: There were some really nice moments in this book but as I try and write this review I can't seem to recall any of them haha. Generally, I felt like this one was a step down from the first two in terms of my comprehension of the plot. There were so many elements in this book, and a lot of different subplots, I felt myself getting lost at times. There was some level of resolution to old plot lines (eg. Adam with his father) but generally, I felt like this book was just trying to do too much at once.
Characters: This book definitely had the same strength as the first two - Gansey is still the love of my life - and he's getting really... regal like idk but it's working for me. Ronan felt a big neglected compared to the last book (I would have loved more of him dreaming because those scenes were super cool) and Noah felt nonexistent. Adam was redeemed a little in my eyes, slightly more tolerable than he was in the book before. Greenmantle and Piper just annoyed me, like I didn't get anything from their scenes. I liked Joseph Dittley - something about his chapters made me smile (got to appreciate his commitment to Spaggetios)
Relationships: I know everyone is a big fan of the Ronan/Adam thing but honestly... where's the evidence? Like I know Ronan likes Adam, and they clearly get on well (that scene in the supermarket car park was super cute) but I don't really feel like enough attention is being given to their relationship and subsequently they kind of feel lost in the plot. Gansey and Blue... yeah I see it (although their weird obsession with mint leaves ??? )
World-Building: TOO CONFUSING I'm sorry Maggie Steifvater but I am not as big brain and you think I am and I do not understand what is going on with all these witchy supernatural words - scrying? no idea - which was fine in book one but honestly by book 3 i still feel just as confused about how the whole magic thing works.
Genre: The balance of magical and real has definitely shifted - I still feel like the shift away from the school setting is sad - I liked Albingony (is that what it's called???) and wish more scenes were set there
