Geneva by Richard Armitage

4.0

This is the debut novel from actor Richard Armitage, who was the lead in one of my favourite period dramas of all time - North & South. Well not only is he an accomplished actor but he is a great writer as well. As soon as I heard about this novel I preordered a signed copy from Waterstones and I am not disappointed.

Nutshell: Sarah Collier is an eminent scientist who has won the Nobel prize. She is also suffering the symptoms of early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Her husband wants her to go to Geneva with him to consider endorsing a new technology which could change the lives of those with neurological disease. Sarah doesn't want to go - she feels uneasy and unwell - but she placates her husband and goes. There is so much Sarah does not know however. She is about to be betrayed in the most devastating way and her life is in danger.

Thoughts: What a thrill ride this novel is, and I couldn't put it down. It has characters you love to hate, a scenic locale, diabolical plotting and lots of action. It makes sense given that it was written by an actor with extensive knowledge of the screen and stage, but this would make an excellent movie or series for online streaming. A cracking good read and I highly recommend it.
