The Saturday Night Ghost Club by Craig Davidson

4.0

Oh boy, I really enjoyed this one.

I listened to the audiobook in one day as it is rather short—under 6 hours, I believe. You might know this author by one of his other nom de plumes, Nick Cutter (The Troop, The Deep, Little Heaven). He’s known to write in a gory and grotesque fashion but there is little of that here. Instead, he’s still using his ultra-descriptive prose and turning it down a notch in gross-out factor. His writing honestly reminded me of Ray Bradbury although a bit less purple.

It’s ultimately a coming-of-age story that anyone who experienced a typical prepubescent stage of childhood can relate to. It takes place in the 1980s which makes it a bit more fun for people like me—I was born in 1990 and love 80s movies, music, fashion, etc. It has a lot of heart and thanks to Davidson’s writing you could almost see every scene in your head with vivid precision.
