People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

Oh man. This book was absolute gem. I was a bit apprehensive when I saw that it was in Poppy's POV, because the main guy lead is usually written very one dimensional, but this was not the case. Alex was just as fleshed out as Poppy. I understood his motivations just as much as I understood Poppy's. I could see why they became such best friends, and I loved that they had twelve years of history to build from. These two spent 12 years trying to tell each other that they didn't fit, yet as the reader all I could see was how well they did. The dialogue was downright hilarious at times, and I found myself laughing out loud a lot of the time. Poppy really resonated with me, this need to travel and escape from her life even if she loved her family and perhaps her hometown a little bit as well. This book is a book for younger millennials (I'm 8 years older than Poppy so a lot of her issues didn't really "speak to me"), but the notion of feeling stuck and unhappy did resonate. This is a GREAT summer read and all around fun book. I think this surpassed Beach Read for me.
