After having read parts of, and then the entirety of, The Epic of Gilgamesh and thinking 'holy shit this is queer and dramatic as hell I wonder if anyone has done a retelling of this' I found out that someone very recently had. Huzzah!

I will admit, I was a little underwhelmed by this. It obviously doesn't follow the original story without deviation, but I found the amount of changes and the specific changes that were made to be disappointing. But in terms of like, a story with queer characters becoming more well-rounded people it felt pretty good.

Honestly very coming of age like, almost young adult vibes? Which isn't bad, but wasn't what I wanted I don't think. Let Gilgamesh and Endiku be selfish and flawed and messy instead of being like, strangely wholesome? I dunno. I will be reading the second one whenever it comes out though, if only because I am curious to see how the rest of the Epic is played out within this adapted world.
