Neanderthal Marries Human by Penny Reid
3.0
This was very charming and, in many ways, an improvement on the original. I like hearing from the male perspective and I really enjoy that Penny Reid makes her men, even when alpha, more rounded than many other writers -- Quinn has thoughts, feelings, and relationships beyond Janie and the simplistic desire to intimidate, control, and conquer that so many alphas suffer from. Although he still falls into a few unfortunate manly stereotypes (first, it's one thing to pull out a chair, it's an entirely different thing to order someone else's food ESPECIALLY after that person has explicitly asked you to not do that and second, it's a bit childish and unattractive for a man to be that squeamish about menstruation).
I also enjoyed getting glimpses into the other side of Friends Without Benefits and spending more time with the knitting crew (their girl talk is much closer to my experience of girl talk than any other author) although I wonder about the timelines that Ashley was in touch with Cletus to get the moonshine, did all of Love, Hacked and Beauty and the Mustache happen during Janie's engagement? (Actually, this is making me want to timeline the whole series! I suspect the Cletus moonshine is a continuity error because Ashley wasn't on speaking terms with any of her brothers until after Sandra was married, although Ash could conceivably have asked her mother... either way, I suspect there are several continuity errors if you get really specific about it.) And I like getting more groundwork for the eventual Kat/Dan book, which I am looking forward to.
However, I just couldn't quite muster the interest in the "private clients" and Quinn or Janie's family dramas - I totally skimmed those sections.
