Reread March 2024: still sticking by Rose being annoying about Dimitri. She kept pushing herself on him even though he made it clear multiple times that he didn’t want to see her.
Original Rating:
Lowering my original rating to 4 stars because OMG Rose's obsession with Dimitri in this book was too much for me to handle! Now I have always shipped Rose and Dimitri so yeah, I want them to be together, but Dimitri is basically all Rose can think about the entire book. SpoilerThis especially annoyed me because she was dating Adrian and she'd tell herself she's going to commit to him, take their relationship seriously, that she actually wants to give it a shot and immediately her next thought will be something about Dimitri. And she did this countless times. I've always said Adrian deserves better than Rose and I stick to that.
I did enjoy the amounts of Eddie we got to see in this book because he's one of my favorite side characters. Rose needs his help with something and he doesn't even ask her what it is just that he's in. Eddie is the most loyal friend you could ever have and is so underappreciated.
Everything beyond this point will just be a spoilery mess...
Spoiler*Breaking into Tarasov Prison was great, it was everything I wanted and still one of my favorite scenes. I did miss Victor's rapport with Rose.
*Personally I really enjoyed Strigoi Dimitri as a villain, part of me is sad to see him gone. Also the scene where they save him happened so much earlier than I remembered!
*Queen Tatiana being murdered is still such a shock and that Rose was framed for it, especially thinking about who framed her.
*LOL I totally forgot Abe shows up at the end to be Rose's lawyer!
