The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez
5.0
Come now... Sit Sit
Let me tell you a tale. It begins as with all spectacular tales, with power. Vast copious amounts of it. Finding its way to a tyrant.
and with gods who always mean well when they're above us but cock it up when they become us.
and the people reluctant as always, who have to put it all back together.
This is the tale of the end of the Moon Throne
This book is and was a delight. Oh my goodness.
A large part of this book made me think about the mirroring of children and the what their parents desire. How far would you go to have your parent hold and cheerish you.

I know we largely considered The Three Terrors the main villians of the story but for me the villian will always be the Empress. To her death, the refusal to completely take the blame for everything that happened annoyed me. Her very convinient way to shifting blame to Jun and the Terrors, like character builds in a vacum was maddening.I truly loved the breakdown of the story, how the author weaved it in and out of the life of the narrator (whose name we never learnt) to the happenings of the old country. Ahh to see what you had considered merely myths coming to life in front of your eyes. The wonder.
To be honest, I still don't know If this was A love story in the way we think of love stories but there was a love story and that was alright with me.
