*Note: The book was originally called Melody Bittersweet and the Girls’ Ghostbusting Agency
Synopsis: Melody Bittersweet sees dead people and is part of a family business Blithe Spirits on Chapelwick High Street. She lives with her eccentric family: mother Silvana and gran Dicey. Melody has decided to start her own little enterprise a ghostbusting agency to help people get rid of unwanted ghosts with her best friend Marina, new assistant Art Elliott and part-time and super efficient assistant Glenda Jackson.
I love the fun and colourful front cover, it has an interesting premise and starts off well with quirky characters and some funny lines and has some good ideas but for me I found it ran out of steam and to be honest at times I got a bit bored. The description of an hilarious cozy mystery is overplayed there was an occasional laugh but to say it is hilarious is an exaggeration and the mystery - 3 brothers living in a big house one of whom murdered one of his siblings. Melody has to solve the mystery for the brothers to find peace. So it was a little paranormal, mystery with a dash of ‘romance’.
Be aware the book is peppered with pop culture references throughout which could be annoying if you don’t get them - which fortunately for me I did which surprised me!
Maybe I am just being grouchy and you have to be in the right mood and I just wasn't. :(
