His Secret Heir: Dread Lord's Fated Mate by Celeste King, Emma Alisyn, Sora Stargazer

4.0

I was waiting on Heir to His Court. I wanted so badly to dive back into this author`s writing that I picked the first book that fell into my hands at a quick scroll down her Amazon page.

For sure, I did not regret the decision. This was a very welcome fantasy adult romance. I still missed the more developed and more thought-through world of the The Fae Prince of Everenne series, but it quenched part of my thirst.

The main character has a pair of twins whit whom she is on the run through space. Until one day, when the father of her children catches up with them and brings them back to his planet. The story unfurls from then on. It is standalone, so I don`t want to go into too much detail.

I liked the main character`s inner voice. She was assertive and composed:

quote* I settled in, politely ignoring the stares of the table’s other occupants. It was natural they would want to look their fill. I was beautiful, as I must be. *quote

I loved the acknowledgment. It sounds like a truth that burdens her with its weight. Her beauty is not about self-pride, but about her title and stature.

Overall, the book gave me some strong Dune vibes. It was like this was a book written from Jessica`s POV (if Dune would have had the balls to integrate a more palpable romance for the female side because at least half of it is wasted on the grand mission of the young who must go and conquer it all).

quote*No Jakkathian would even imagine that one of their women had done the unthinkable. Produced unsanctioned offspring, raised them outside of her Gen’Lord’s control.*quote.
