Wow. First of all, this book is incredibly hard to rate; I did not “enjoy” the content. This is one of the most disturbing, stomach wrenching, sad books that I have ever read. It’s very hard to explain how I feel after reading this. All I know is I couldn’t pick up another book while I was listening to this audiobook because it was all my brain could handle. The writing is beautiful, the depictions of Vanessa and Strane are raw, real, and complicated. I was disgusted and sad for majority of my time with this book but I also feel it is such an important look at the long term after effects of abu$e.
