Ann Sitwell is running from something other than her grief. Her father had just died and she wants to be anywhere but her small town, so she escapes to New York where she would work at The Met, only to find the program is no longer able to accept her. Instead, she ends up in a small medieval gallery, The Cloisters, where she falls in with researchers convinced the history of Tarot holds the key to unlocking contemporary fortune-telling, and so begins the twisted tale.

I really liked this story. Though it might not have been ground-breaking for Dark Academia as a genre, I adored the gothic setting and the inclusion of tarot and thought the prose created the perfect atmosphere and did a fabulous job at worldbuilding.

Ann, who started out quite timid, grows stronger and more self-assured throughout the book and I really liked seeing how that changed the relationships around her.
