Economix: How and Why Our Economy Works (and Doesn't Work) in Words and Pictures: How and Why Our Economy Works (and Doesn't Work) in Words and Pictur by David Bach, Michael Goodwin

5.0

This is an excellent foundation on the principles and academics behind economics. When I grabbed it from the library I thought, this can either be schlock or could be a perfect primer. Clearly it is the later. The information is clear and concise, the illustrations and progression are accessible and the ideas presented are for educating the masses. In the beginning and at the end, the author states that he hopes that readers will learn from the text and do more research and education to have thoughtful discussions about where we need to look and actions we as a society need to take to correct some economic blunders. That is clear.

At times there are some political jibes and some leanings, but overall they are couched in history and in concrete examples of why policies failed or need to be learned from.

One interesting point, this book is not written for a high school student. I think you get more out of it if you have had some relevant work and banking experience. This isn't going to replace a text book teaching someone about micro or macro economics, instead the book will help clarify how you experience the economy in the real world.
