Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross
5.0
First time reading Juliette Cross and I'm kicking myself for taking this long to hop on the Stay a Spell train! The upside is that the final book was just released, so I can now binge the entire series. I listened to the audio, which was so well done-- I highly recommend!!
This was paranormal slow burn perfection! There is literally nothing I would change about it. Mateo and Evie are my dream couple..both are creative artists, Mateo is a troubled hero, and Evie is just the sweetest witchy heroine. They balance each other perfectly, so its no wonder that Evie would help to calm Mateo's inner wolf (Alpha).
Juliette Cross writes funny yet steamy banter better than anyone I've read from before..which I'm so glad, because IMO that is one element that typically makes or breaks it for me when reading romance. Sometimes it's too much, or not enough..and its easy for a heroine to come off as annoying rather than witty and organically quirky--but Evie seems like someone I'd want to be friends with IRL.
I've seen some reviews say that it was too slow of a plot, but I'd counter that with the fact that so much goes into character development as well as Mateo and Evie getting to know each other. So although the big plot twist moment doesn't come until near the end of the book, I wasn't bothered by that one bit. I think it gives you more time with the couple on page falling in love and exploring their dynamic together, since they're different paranormal beings.
I thought the pacing was just right, the romance was swoony and steamy, the spicy scenes were chef's kiss, and the world building wasn't overwhelming! If I could give this more than 5 stars on here, I would.
So, if you're like me and have had this series sitting on your TBR far too long, get with it! Binge the entire series like I'm about to--can't recommend it enough, and all-time fave now for sure!
