Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence by Anna Lembke

informative inspiring

4.0

A most illuminating read on the balance between pleasure and pain, how an excess of either can lead to distress, and how to restore balance in one's life if the scale had been tipped, all in order to enjoy a more fulfilling life.

What I found particularly intriguing about this book was the author's argument about pain and shame not being inherently negative as they are commonly perceived to be and how at least a little of both are essential to a person's overall well-being. I also loved the author's approach in delivering the material not only with professional objectivity, without reproach or negative labeling, but also with profound empathy. I highly recommend.
